Yankee Restoration Project
Pictures
taken 1/7/2004

Restoration continues, now in the basement.
Much warmer, brighter, everything is where
you can find it.

The tool case from Christmas is really
handy, everything fits, and is arranged
so you can find what you need easily.

The area is almost too nice! Carpet on the floor,
plenty of light, lots of workbench area, I'm
not used to this for working on any type of
motor vehicle.

This workbench was built for Brian's T-Maxx
truck, and whatever else it's needed for.
Still plans for more shelves, more storage,
better parts storage and whatever else
is needed so we can find stuff when we need to.

Brian's YZ 250 is just on the other side of
workbench #2. He has rebuilt the whole
bike here. A month ago, it was completely
apart, and having the frame sandblasted.

The Yankee gear case is now almost
completely stripped out. All but one
of the bearings have been removed,
the cranks and main bearings are out.

This is what one of the Yankee crankshafts
should look like just before you send it
out for a new connecting rod. There
are 4 parts to it, including the old
con rod, which will be replaced
by a newer, stronger version.

Still presenting a problem, the right side
crank has the main bearing and primary
drive still stuck on the crank! Have
tried heating it, hammering on it,
swearing at it, nothing seems to work.
It may have to go to a machine shop
and be pressed out, I don't want to
try harder and break something.

This USED to be a perfectly good Yankee
special engine tool, until I tried removing
the right crank with it. The crank is
stuck so tightly onto the taper that
the tool broke into pieces.
