Yankee Restoration Project
Pictures

A
lot has been learned about the history
and
current status of the Yankee over
the
past week. A lot of needed parts
are
available, which is great. Several
items
have been purchased from sellers
on
eBay, I'm waiting for them to arrive.

The
frame is going to be done next, there is
a
shop near me that will powder coat the frame,
and
paint match the tank and side covers. The
powder
coat process leaves a brilliant finish,
and
more durable than paint alone. I wonder
if
they can do the exhaust pipes also.

People
seem to agree than no Yankees left
the
factory in black, so I have to assume
that
someone wanted the bike all black,
and
spent the time to do a frame strip
down,
frame repaint, and matching colors
for
the tank and side panels.

The
tank seems to be in great shape, it
even
holds water. The siphon tubes need to
be
replaced, and the inside of the tank has
some
deposits that will have to be cleaned
out,
but overall it looks real good.

The
seat looks like it has has some burn marks
in
the foam, but should be able to be recovered.
The
bike looks like it spent more time on the
street
than the trails, it's not beat up like it
had
5 years of motocross or anything.
The
original front Full Bore tire is in good
shape,
and has the wear pattern of a universal
ridden
almost full time on the street.

Still
haven't been able to loosen up the pistons
or
carbs. 25 years of storage will bind things
up
pretty good. At least the frame and painting
will
get done next, that's a sure thing. After
that
is the mechanical engine work, and then
the
electrical system.
The
front forks were chromed at one time,
they
may become brushed aluminum
for
the time being. The wheels are
straight
and spokes are tight, no nicks
or
dents in the soft rims.
